Jaipur: The Rajasthan Board of Secondary Education (RBSE) has announced a major academic reform that will allow students to appear for board exams twice a year, starting from the 2026-27 academic session. The decision was confirmed by Rajasthan Education Minister Madan Dilawar, marking a significant shift in the state’s education policy to reduce exam pressure and promote learning flexibility.

RBSE’s New Exam System Explained
Under the new framework, RBSE will conduct two sessions of board examinations for both Class 10 and Class 12 students every year. The change aims to give students more opportunities to improve their scores and better manage academic stress.
The first exam will be mandatory for all students.
The second exam will be optional, allowing students to improve marks in up to three subjects.
The best performance from both attempts will be counted as the final score in the student’s mark sheet.
According to officials, both exams will cover the complete syllabus and maintain identical evaluation standards, ensuring fairness and consistency across sessions.
Tentative RBSE Exam Schedule 2026-27
First Board Exam: February – March 2027
Second Board Exam: May – June 2027
Students who wish to enhance their marks will be able to take the second exam without waiting an entire academic year.
Objective Behind the Biannual RBSE Exams
The new model is inspired by the CBSE’s two-exam pattern and aligns with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, which promotes continuous assessment and reduced exam pressure.
Education Minister Madan Dilawar emphasized that the change will improve academic outcomes and give every student a fair chance to perform well.
“Our goal is to make examinations stress-free and student-centric. This new system allows flexibility and ensures that students’ best efforts are truly reflected in their results,” he said.
Benefits for RBSE Students
Opportunity to improve scores without losing a full academic year.
Reduction in exam-related anxiety and pressure.
Encouragement of consistent learning instead of last-minute preparation.
Fair evaluation through identical standards across both exams.
Education experts believe the reform will make Rajasthan’s board evaluation system more flexible and progressive, aligning it with modern learning principles.
Next Steps for Schools and Students
The RBSE will soon issue official guidelines on the new exam process, including syllabus structure, application procedures, and evaluation criteria. Schools across Rajasthan have been instructed to begin academic planning to accommodate the dual-exam schedule.
