Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar, Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan and Vice Chancellor of Jamia Millia Islamia Najma Akhtar during the centenary year convocation of the university in New Delhi on Sunday.

Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI) today announced that the Union Government has granted permission to start a medical college in JMI. The news was announced by the Vice Chancellor JMI Prof. Najma Akhtar.

“We have dentistry, physiotherapy, first aid health centres, but a medical college has been missing in Jamia. As a VC, I have always requested for a medical college, on behalf of my students and faculty. We requested the government of India for the same, and now I am happy to announce that JMI has been granted the permission to establish a medical college at the campus,” she announced at the ceremony.

Akhtar also announced that JMI is aiming to open an international campus in Middle East soon.

The VC also talked about how JMI has secured a rank in the top 3 institutes in the NIRF Rankings for the second consecutive year. “In the past few years, Jamia has also gained positions in the international rankings,” she added.

The institute is hosting its Centenary Year Convocation today at Vigyan Bhawan. In the ceremony, around 12500 students will be awarded degrees and diplomas, including the ones who graduated in the 2019 and 20202. The ceremony was held at Vigyan Bhawan.

Vice President of India, Jagdeep Dhankhar, was the Chief Guest of the ceremony. Minister of Education, Skill Development and Entrepreneurship Dharmendra Pradhan too presided over the convocation.

“Considering the limited space only gold medallists and PhD pass outs will be awarded their degrees at the Vigyan Bhawan. All other students will be awarded their degrees and diplomas at the university in the afternoon,” the institute had earlier notified.
